Martin Alaniz
Martin began working under the WIA work program last year, as a junior and he was eager to start off his senior year right where he left off. He continues to show growth in his progress. His work ethic is terrific, as he takes his job very seriously. He is a prime example of why I love doing this job. I have so enjoyed seeing him gain experience and confidence through this program.
This year, Martin was placed at the Sizzler Restaurant to gain experience in different aspects of the business. The manager was able to see that Martin was not taking his hands-on training lightly. He mentioned on several occasions how well Martin was progressing and becoming a valuable member of the work crew. Martin has learned to overcome a very difficult personal challenge through his training. The manager of Sizzler and I have both noticed Martin's improvement in not being so shy and actually actively participating in conversations. This will definitely benefit him through many aspects of his life. It is also apparent that Martin has a new found confidence in himself and knows that he can complete a task, even if it is completely new to him.
Through this work program, Martin has achieved many skills that enable him to be a conscientious and dedicated employee. That is no doubt the reason the manager of Sizzler decided to hire Martin as a permanent employee once he had finished training with all of his WIA hours. The pride that I feel for Martin is enormous, but what makes this really special is that my pride does not compare to the pride and positive self-esteem that Martin feels about his self. Way to go Martin!!!!!!
