I have been a long time resident of the Merced Community. Arriving in the mid-fifties, my father was stationed with the Strategic Air Command at Castle Air Force Base. I attended Winton Elementary Grade Schools and graduated from Merced High School. I graduated from Merced College, attended U.C.Davis and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences from Chapman University.
After working in the private sector twenty-three years for a local insurance company, I decided to make a career change to pursue my passions in education and youth.
Since I began my career with Merced Office of Education in May of 2000, I have had the opportunity to work with and for our Merced youth. I have the privilege of sitting on the Merced County Youth Council, Central Valley Opportunity Center's Board, Family Resource Council, Youth Developmental Action Team, and San Joaquin UC Alumni Network. I also had the honor of sitting on the Board of the Merced County Boys & Girls Clubs for three years.
I presently work for the Merced County Office of Education Youth Opportunity Program and EMPOWER Programs. The programs speak for themselves. I can see the significance by the way the programs impact our Youth. There are so many riveting stories that are shared that often go unrecognized in the classroom or at home. It's the primary reason why I love coming to work each day - to hear their success stories and watch them blossom into productive individuals.
